Finding My Style – Autumn Fashion Trends I Love

Hello lovelies,

Here I am trying to rekindle my love for writing and blogging. I really enjoy doing it (when I have the time). I love getting a spark of an idea and running with it (like I’m doing today.)

Last weekend I went to the Northern Blog Awards (a very fashionable, posh affair) in Manchester. I was nominated and shortlisted for an award which was exciting! I didn’t come away with one but for me it was a bit achievement to be there in the first place. I was up for an award in the ‘Best Vlogger’ category. In short, I spend a lot more time creating content for my YouTube channel than on here. A few months ago I invested in a good camera (Canon G7X) and ever since I’ve been trying to film anything and everything. My favourite type of video to film is travel vlogs. I love having the footage to look back on, it’s almost like rediscovering the place I visited.

Anyway onto why I’m writing this today. Having spent a weekend in Manchester which is a very fashionable place (up the north!) I felt like sharing with you some of my current fashion trends and pieces I’m looking forward to wearing over the coming months. I bought a few autumnal items from M&S which I’m very excited to wear so I’ll show you those!

FIRST LOOK / TREND: RUFFLES AND HOUNDSTOOTH

I adore this combination. I’m currently collaborating with Everything5pounds.com and they let me pick a few items off their online store. I bought this mega ruffled cropped top off there. One could argue I’m going to have a slightly chilly midriff over autumn but it’s a perfect item to wear underneath a coat or snug jacket. I think this top is really cute, it feels playful and reminds me of something I’d have worn as a child.

I’m not sure houndstooth is particularly ‘in’ at the moment but I’m loving a good pair of trousers, these are the legging style, stretchy type. They are comfortable and move with your body. I’m always put off buying trousers as I think they’ll be rigid and uncomfortable. I got this during my rummage in TKMaxx (next to the Arndale shopping centre). They’re by a brand called Carolina Belle Montreal (I’ve not heard of them either) I love TKMaxx and how they stock a whole mutitude of designer brands and companies you’ve never heard of before. It enables you to buy things your not expecting on the high street.

SECOND LOOK / TREND: HIGH NECKS AND PLEATED SKIRTS

JUMPER: M&S CREAM SKIRT: EVERYTHING5POUNDS

I am so happy M&S have brought back the £17.50 high neck! It comes in so many colours aswell. Last year I bought a mustard yellow one and this year I’ve purchased the cream and red (so fare) I think I’m going to have to buy some more when my size comes back into stock. I grabbed Size 8 as I like them to be figure hugging and tight. Got my eyes on the purple/blue, black, orange and grey. May have to pop them on my birthday list!

This skirt is again from Everything5pounds.com I fell in love when I saw it in the ‘New Arrivals’ section. I went for a size 12 as I’m typically a bigger size on my bottoms but I do feel I could have gone a size smaller as it sits on the waist not the hips.

This outfit makes me feel feminine and could be worn in the daytime or evening. Just dress up with statement earrings, heels and a clutch for an effortless transition.

I’m loving blue / grey hues as you can probably tell already. The sheer skirt is a beautiful cool toned blue which will match and pair with most colours, but I do like putting it with white or cream so that it stands out.

THIRD LOOK / TREND: CHUNKY KNITWEAR AND COLOUR CLASHING

IMG_1090
JUMPER: M&S CULOTTES: ZARA

This is a bit loud and not for everyone – I’m unsure if I’d wear this out or not! I bought this chunky knit at the weekend also and wondered what I could get away with wearing it with. I think it goes perfectly with a pair of black leggings or jeans and a colourful pair of boots. I’ve had these culottes knocking around in my wardrobe for a while now, they’re one of my key pieces. I normally pair them with a tshirt tucked in as they have a nice tie/bow detail at the front.

I ended up purchasing this chunky knit in a size M so it was more suitable for wearing outdoors. Although I was rather tempted to buy it in XL for super snuggly evenings in! (Eddie wanted me to do this). This jumper was a little bit more pricey at £35 and I was a little disappointed to see it was 80%+ acrylic as rubbish knitwear material seems to make my hair static-y (anyone else find that?).

We’ve all seen the pink / red colour clash so I thought why not try orange and red?

This high neck cable knit jumper is one of the most comfortable things I’ve ever worn, you won’t regret this purchase!

FOURTH LOOK / TREND: POLKADOTS AND THE JUMPSUIT

JUMPSUIT: EVERYTHING5POUNDS

I do love the jumpsuit, to me it’s always a classy night out outfit choice. Plus it’s very versatile – again daytime or suitable for the evening. I love the polka dot detailing on this jumpsuit. I used to wear polka dots a lot but they seemed to disappear off the high street fashion scene for a while.

I love how small the dots are, I think this is my new way of wearing polkas. I went for a size 10 in this and I have to admit it is pretty tight but that’s mainly because I’m so tall (5’8.5″) its also a little short on the leg but I love a cropped trouser look so I’ll probably cuff it. The material itself is very soft and quite thin so prevents you overheating in this long sleeve, long leg all-in-one.

The good thing about wearing something monchromatic is it will go with virtually anything of any colour so accessorising is easy-peasy! I think tousled hair, a strong red lip and glitter eyeshadow looks good with this outfit.

ACCESSORIES: MY THREE FAVOURITE PAIRS OF EARRINGS

I paired all my outfits with earring details. I contrasted the chunky jumper (centre) with a delicate pair of earrings. I kept my jumpsuit look black by adding statement tassle earrings (we all know how tassles are a key trend right now). I glammed my high neck and sheer skirt look up by adding my vintage YSL earrings.

That’s all folks..

I hope you enjoyed reading about my current fashion faves and trends I will be wearing over A/W 17. I’m loving M&S knitwear at the moment (not only 50+ year olds have to shop there!) and I’m enjoying collaborating with everything5pounds.com I’ve actually been amazed by the quality of the items they sell. Also can you believe, that sheer blue skirt is from Topshop originally?! Absolute bargain! If you’d like to see my video content, skip over to my YouTube Channel to see my unboxing / try on and lookbooks (coming soon!)

Let me know which is your favourite look and what colours your trying to interject into your wardrobe this autumn!

Thanks for reading,

  2. That ruffle top is the perfect choice to balance those leggings out — I love a more dramatic too with skinny trousers! And that high-neck shirt in the second look is so cozy and sleek, too. Excellent choices!
